Red Top Mountain Outfitters is family owned and operated by Walter and Jared Taylor of La Jara, New Mexico. La Jara is located in north central New Mexico on the Northwest side of the Jemez Mountains. Walter has been a guide in the area for 30+ years and has many successful hunts under his belt. Jared has guided professionally for the last 10 years and is Walters's younger brother.
Our goal is to provide a high quality hunting experience to our clients. Our clients can expect small comfortable camps, knowledgeable guides, and great New Mexico style home cooking! Our firearm elk hunts (muzzleloader and rifle) are 5-day hunts and are conducted in unit 6A. Archery hunts will be from 5-7 days. Typical mature bulls in this unit range from 290-330 class of trophy, but there are 340-370 bulls killed each year by hunters in the unit thanks to the management practices of the NM Dept. of Game and Fish. Mule deer hunts are conducted on a number of units in northern New Mexico. Some of these units (i.e. 5B and 2B) are very hard for a non-resident to draw but offer the chance at a true trophy muley buck.
