Elk Hunt Description

Elk hunting in northern New Mexico is some of the finest in the country!  Come let the guides at Red Top Mountain lead you on your next elk hunting adventure. We have public land and private land hunts available and can customize a hunt to your physical abilities. Anyone can experience the magic of hunting bugling bull elk regardless of your physical conditioning.  Archery hunts take place during the early rut and are very exciting as we chase bugling bulls through the high country. Muzzle Loader hunts are peak rut and offer the opportunity to hunt big bulls with a smoke pole! Rifle hunts are in mid October and offer a traditional style of elk hunting experience. Typical mature bulls in the area range from 290-310 class of bull; however several bulls are killed by Red Top Mountain clients each year that exceed that score class. We have very limited availability on private land hunts so book today!
Private Land Only Elk Hunts

Our private land hunts offer a high quality hunting experiece to our clients.  Private land hunts come with guaranteed tags, you do not need to apply in state lottery for a hunting license! All of our ranches are loaded with elk!  The private land option is especially sought after by Red Top clients that prefer not to hunt the high country or the physical rigors that come with it.  In 2009 Red Top clients experienced 100% harvest on these high quality private land hunts! Hunting is run-n-gun in the morning as we attempt to intercept bulls between feeding and bedding areas. Then the evening hunt will be in a blind or treestand over meadows or water. Both methods are very successful and make for an exciting hunt as we chase or wait for bugling bulls!
Public Land Draw Hunts

Draw hunts take place in high quality elk hunting units that consistently produce opportunities for our clients every year. The area you will be hunting has a variety of different terrain offering a  very diverse hunting opportunity. There are elk from 7,000 feet down on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation border that make thier daily migration to feeding areas on public land. There are also wilderness areas that are 9 - 10,500 feet above sea level that are loaded with plenty of elk to hunt. We will customize your hunt and pair you up with a guide based on your physical abilities. 6 day archery hunts take place September 1-22 during the first part of the elk rut. Muzzle loader hunts are 5 days long.  They take place the 2nd week of October and are full of bugling action. Rifle hunts offer you a classic style of western elk hunting and take place the last two weeks of October.  Rifle hunts are 5 days.  Hunt cost is $4,500 and includes guide, lodging, all meals, and field care of your harvested game. Hunt cost does not include New Mexico State hunting license ($5-$7 hundred depending on unit and hunt drawn). Give Jared or Delilah a call today and let them customize your next elk hunting adventure.
